So, you just took one of those fancy metabolic age quizzes—maybe it was built into your new fitness tracker, or some website convinced you to enter your weight, height, and daily coffee intake. And now, the results are in.

Bad news: According to this totally “scientific” calculation, your metabolic age is 15 years older than your actual age.

Worse news: The quiz strongly implies that your metabolism is circling the drain.

Even worse news: It just so happens that the same website offers a miracle supplement/workout plan/detox tea that can “reverse” your metabolic age… for a small fee, of course.

At this point, you have two options:

  1. Panic. Start researching metabolic “boosters,” contemplate your life choices, and maybe consider drafting a will—because obviously, according to this quiz, you’re basically ancient.
  2. Think critically. Realize that metabolic age is mostly a made-up number, and just like your actual age, it has little to do with whether you feel great or sluggish, fit or out of shape.
